This is first appearance in a major finals for Austria since the World Cup in 1998 and the co-hosts will want to make an impact when they kick-off against Croatia on Sunday.

Austria coach Josef Hickersberger has elected to place his faith on youth omitting Markus Weissenberger and Sanel Kuljic from his 23-man squad. Austria need to win this one else they could face early trouble as they also have to play Germany and Poland in their next games.

Croatia are favorites to go through, but manager Slaven Bilic will be aware that a single false step and his team could be in trouble. With emerging talents like Niko Kranjcar and Luka Modric, Croatia can expect to go all the way in Euro 2008.
